surf, chill and relax - welcome to school holiday
It feels like ages and I
couldn't really remember how salty water tasted, how sunscreen would
burn in my eyes, how exhausting this hot humid weather can be, how to
get up before 6 am and be excited about it, how itchy moskito bites
can be or bloody hard it is to run on sand. But here it is, here we
go and welcome back to my journey.
You can easily say that I
cheated on myself, that I was going again to Costa Rica, a place I
have been before and chose the easy way of exploring. Yes, I did not
enter new territory, new unknown locations and uncertain situations.
This time it was about pushing the stop-button and entirely focus on
not focusing at all, not hassling for buses, accommodations and food.
I wanted to just relax and surf some waves in a known environment.
Santa Teresa is changing, everything becomes more expensive and
ridiculously full of tourists. Especially for a still poor country
the costs of making a living are very high, considering it is a lot
cheaper up north of the border in Nicaragua. But maybe next time.
After getting here and
making myself comfortable in the accommodation I realized that the
prizes have doubled and the actually apartment I booked was to
expensive. After 4 days and failed negotiations I left for another
Lodge, the Funky Monkey Lodge. Quiet nice place with a few friendly
guests. I felt good, especially because I had the whole dorm room to
myself. But after 5 days everybody left and the manager was a
dickhead. I didn't want to spend any more Dollar on him. Moving down
the street about 300m away is amazing when you have to carry all your
luggage at once. The Don Jon's Lodge is going to be my home now for …
well, we'll see. He is funny, lazy and seems to be high all the time.
But so is the vibe. Very relaxing and no worries at the horizon.
When I got here a huge
swell, that made surfing impossible was decreasing slowly, so it took
me a few beatings and a lot of hard work to actually make it into the
line-up with those 4-6ft coming in. But as soon as it went to 3-4ft I
had some amazing rides and felt the board under my feet working the
way I wanted it to and the way I remembered it surfing back in
Australia. The most beautiful compliment I got was from two girls
from the UK that actually thought I was Australian and felt fooled as
I told them to be German – haha. Me and Dirk were surfing every day
as much as our arms could hold and had to take a day off after 10
days. Well, it was very small enyway. I am about to be 12 days into
my travel and try to go running and sprinting every second day.
Oh on the 4th
day my Phone and Computer went down while it was pouring rain all
night long. The humidity went into the two devises and I could
literatelly see the screen on my phone going pitch black. So no pics,
no whatsapp, no calls. Luckily the Laptop went back on after 2 days
in a sealed bag with rice that sucked the humidity out. Wow, that was
close. What else can go wrong? We'll see.
