water becomes snow - a different surf experience
This is my first non-surfing-blog ever and the 100th too. Funny coincidence. Due to some further vocational training I was able to go snowboarding
again after a few years. The training took place in Austria and
because it was October everybody was shipped up to 3200m ontop of the
Hintertuxer Glacier in the Zilletal. Our Hotel was at an altitude of
1500m and it was still 12°C and warm compared to the freezing level
at the top.
There were mostly skier in the hotel
and just a handfull of snowboarder fighting to justify there passion.
I caught a virus the week before the stuck with a heavy flu but went
on the bus for 10 hours instead arriving in the Alps for the first
time in about 3 years. I struggled to tie my shoes and especially my
bindings at the top of the mountain, because the thin air caused a
lot of troubles to breathe.
We were a funny group and work well
together. Only our coach was pushing us pretty hard and we needed to
sit in the snow and listened with a wet bottom very often during the
day. But the view and weather was usually stunning as you can see. The nights were usually filled with drinking and card games.
Well teachers usually get loose when in holiday. It was altogether a
fun, but expensive week, but I needed to rest another one afterwards
to fully regain my health. It will take a few years to go back to the
snow again, because this winter it is going to Morocco. Looking
forward after 10 years absence. See you there.
