Thailand
I didn't mean to go to Thailand, but I thought when I'm an hour away and cause I love the food why not make it short stopover and have a look. Phuket is a touristic "Hochburg" as we Germans would say and in some streets a nightmare, but I actually felt really welcome and relaxed there. I totally get when people got stuck there forever.
My first Pad Thai since New Zealand tasted probably better than it was. But I had many more and many good ones. Patong is the place I stayed in a nice hotel for a cheap rate. Driving around the Island, visiting a huge Buddha statue and some small temple was the daily routine. But I also went surfing in some longboard-styled knee high beachbreak waves, but I was surfing.
The vibe Thailand has is so unique, much better than Malaysia. Less structured and seemingly less safe, but you always felt safe and there was always and everywhere good food. After a few days I decided to go to Kho Phi Phi. Didn't know what to expect, but while reading the name a bell was ringing. The people on the ferry looked different and I thought to myself I hope this is not a party island. Well it was. Very very touristic and every night parties at the beach until moring. It was certain I wont stay the whole 5 days I intended. I did a hike, had a nice view over the island and went snorkeling including a tour around Maja Bay where Leo DiCaprio was in The Beach. The huge amount of tourists didn't deminish the beautiful fishes and corals I saw. Even glowing Plankton was on the agenda.
Needless to say I left after 3 days and went back to Patong in a 4* Hotel for $15. Unbelievable. It was called Pride, newly renowated and new owner. Nice guy. Aussie. Gay. So now my head was spinning. It's called Pride, the staff members looked gay, he was and the free show at night including the gay tour guide office inside made it clear. I never felt more happy and relaxed to be in that friendly environment. I could not stop laughing about the few Arabien tourists staying there and had no fucking clue. It wss just simply awesome. And I obviously went surfing as well.
