New Zealand part I

After five years it feels old to say that I'm finally back in New Zealand, because that's how I seemed to start my blog every single time. It's been a long time and it's been quite a wait. I've been looking forward to this for a long time my heart had never really left.

I decided to stay for a few days in Auckland to begin with to visit two friends which after all didn't have time. A sad start for that Matter, but I enjoyed the vibe very well and the city didn't seemed to be so bad as I left it 10 years ago. I picked up my camper van and off I went to Whangamata. A dear friend who I met surfing 10 years ago and took me in for two weeks or so was still living there and I was anxious to catch up with him.

It was a blast, nothing really had changed besides our age and we both enjoyed our company in and out of the water very much. I stayed a week, because I felt home and I needed some consistancy for a while. Every time he needed to work and it was small (what it usually was) I grabbed his longboard and caught a lot of waves at the left hand sand bar that Whangamata was famous for.

Robert, a good friend from Dresden made travel plans to come NZ as well and tried to cycle through both islands. Needless to say that as soon as we met in the Coromandel we chucked the bike in the van and went off driving together through the countryside  and in to Mt. Manganui.

He was stunned to see Mt. Manganui after a heavy thunderstorm forced us to go shopping. We walked on top and around it until almost sunset. The storm created an unusual offshore at sunset which made me surf die another 90 min until it was almost pitch black.
