Balinese way of relaxing yourself

It has been my fourth time in Indonesia and looking forward to escape the winter in Germany once again I booked a trip to the tropical island of Bali again. The surf is good all year around, the food is amazing and delicious and the people, despite millions of travellers passing their island, are always friendly and layed back.

I was flying into Denpasar at sunset and was looking forward to a room with A/C to get rid of the jetlag and the rest of the first half of a year of school. The next day I rented a motorbike and went straight to Canggu. It has a good surf, is not full of hotels and still has a nice mix of everything.

I booked into a surfcamp to make socialising easier than staying in a homestay. We had a pool, clean dorm rooms with A/C, a really food breakfast and some nice people to go hang out with. I was not into surfing that much up until that point and the small waves all week and the really busy spots in the water made me only have a few surfs or going back in after an hour or so. Due to the lack of surfing in October I was also not too excited to work hard for my waves or surf nasty reef breaks at the Bukit Peninsula.

So it was more about going out, have a few drinks, enjoy the food and sunsets. After a week I got a little more bored with the surf so I went up the highway, the most dangerous road in Bali, to Balian. I have been there once and really liked it there. But travelling on your own besides surfing there is nothing else to do around there, so going back to Balian comes with a cost of feeling alone and beeing bord despite the beautiful scenery.

The surf though was an eye opener. It was amazing how this pointbreak was working for 150 m consistantly and the most amazing thing was that there were never more than 5 guys out. So even if you were mellow in paddeling for waves you always caught enough in a session. My first session lasted 3 1/2 hours and gave me my first serious sunburn. But that was worth it.

At night I always go up to the market and have amazing street food including a fresh made pie made in a pan. Kind of a very thick pancake and very delicious with chocolate and bananas. Doesn't help you lose weight, but who cares on holiday. :)

Back to Canggu for the final days of my trip I took a few more surfs in and a new tattoo. I figured once I was there and there are hadly any cues for an appointment it may be worth it.
