feet on the ground, ready to go
it was quite a tough flight and killing 2 hours in sydney at 6 in the morning with a jetlag and almost no sleep. but i made it and got on the plane to christchurch. i was nervous flying over the tasman sea and seeing the westcoast of the south island for the first time in such a long time. i took some pics with a smile and waited for the landing.
christchurch was surprisingly warm and sunny. the busdriver was very friendly like most of the kiwis are and we were chatting all the way through to my hostel to finally drop of my backpack and surfboard and and fall in to bed. pizza was my dinner :) meeting up with romy and chill in christchurch for a couple of days. yesterday we went to akaroa with 2 other gemans, felix and leo, to go kajaking and a little hiking. it was a cloudy and chilly day though, but amazing to be back in this beautiful countyside of new zealand. today i visit my sister in kaikoura with who i am going to make a 4 weeks long surftrip later on. she is giving me her car for travelling until she finished working in the thairestaurant and is ready for some surfaction. the weather is amazing, its warm and sunny and no wind at all. going to prepare the car for some roadtrip and checking definatly the surf. romy would like to watch some whales too, so evan tomorrow is going to be busy. in hamner springs, just an hour away, are some hot pools which supposed to be really relaxing and healthy... might give it a try. i almost forgot... i am here for only 3 days and already met sombody from home. stoeppi who studied in jena was also in akaroa and travelling around. :D
as a german, we never had seismographic activity and didnt experience anything like it. but coming down here, it certainly is real. you see all those damaged buildings that lasted for decades and you understand why people are crying and feel sad about it. on our first night we had 2 earthquakes. one was a 6.4 and the other some 5. its weird lying in bed and everything is shaking, but the thing that concerns me more is that you cant do anythoing about it. there is no place to go to, nothing to do besides wait until its over. but a was curious and excitied about it and never worried. so see you all soon.
