taranaki in all weather conditions
We arrived back in taranaki and it felt like home right away. Everything seems familier and the scenery didn’t change a bit. We went straight to backbeach in new Plymouth to wake up with the soaring sound of waves in the morning. It was small but I went out, but let’s face it I would go out in any conditions anyway. Later we went to pak’n’safe and for all who have ever been there, it’s kind of a huge playground, but still just a supermarket. Isa was just happy about the small prices, which where sometimes half of what we had to pay in kaikoura.
The main goal today was to find a suitable surfboard for my sister and let her catch some waves. We found one in the afternoon but she didn’t felt well enough to go out. A cold was holding her back. So I went instead and it was quite fun catching every wave you want to easily with such a long board. But just until a choppy wave throw me off and turned me board while I was falling. I hit it with my arm but slipped so the next thing was my face and unfortunately right in the fin. I felt it right away that it was a cut and hopefully not a big one. Running up the cliff my sister took a closer look and we were off to the hospital. A 2-2,5cm clean cut next to the nose made me wait almost 3 hours until it got glued and hopefully fully sealed. It will keep me about of the water for about a week but fortunately the waves are poor for the same amount of time. Although it is my first serious injury during surfing it is quite a bummer, because a scarf in the face does never looks good.
It went cloudy and a little rainy later the week, so there was also no hiking. Kind of boring, but I don’t want to complain considering the beautiful landscape I’m in and the time I spend in this awesome country. Did I mention it’s summer over here? Yeah, so I relax and endulge ever minute far down under as much as I can.
Days go by and the weather got better although the wind, coming from the south, got a little chilly. The waves got bigger and cleaner, so all conditions improved to go back out. We took off the stripes of my cut and it looked quite well. So my sister, half nurse half sister, pushed me back into the line-up. It is noon and I have one pretty nice session at ahu-ahu-road yesterday and another long one this morning. My arm a noodles right now and I need to fill up the tank for later with a decent breakfast/lunch. So far so good. Later guys.
